UPWARD BOUND SUMMER COLLEGE
What's the Deal?
Want to get a taste of college life this summer? Sign up for college with Upward Bound at Oklahoma State University Institute of Technology (OSUIT) in Okmulgee! See what's it's like to take classes, experience campus life and even live in the dorms.
When and Where?
The program runs from June 6 to July 15 at OSUIT. There's also a special Educational Field Trip from July 18–22. You'll show up on Mondays at 11 a.m. and head home after lunch on Fridays.
How Do I Get There?
If you live in Adair, Cherokee, Muskogee, or Sequoyah counties, QuESTT will hook you up with a ride. If you're in Okmulgee County, you'll need to get yourself to campus.
Daily Routine
Classes are from 9:20 a.m. to 4 p.m., and there's mandatory study time in the dorm from 6 to 7 p.m. Don't worry, QuESTT staff will be around 24/7.
How Do I Sign Up?

You'll get an application packet in the mail.

Fill out the one-page application.

Mail it back using the pre-stamped envelope.

Applications are first-come, first-served.

You'll hear back from us ASAP by text or phone if you got in.
Orientation
If you get in, you and a parent need to come to an orientation meeting in April.
What About College Credits?
This summer's course is SPEECH 1113. To get in, you need:

A minimum ACT score of 19 or a GPA of 3.0

A Reading ACT sub-score of at least 19
Or for SAT:

A minimum SAT score of 980 or a GPA of 3.0

A Reading SAT sub-score of at least 480
Final Field Trip
If you're about to start college or if you're taking the college course this summer, you can go on the Educational Field Trip. Just make sure you've followed some extra rules like taking the ACT/SAT twice and filling out your FAFSA if you're a graduating senior.
Note: Check with your school counselor to see if there are any extra requirements you need to meet.

2023 Summer College dates are: June 12 – July 21 for OSUIT and July 24 – 28 for the Educational Field Trip.

Summer College is for all Upward Bound students.

All Summer College communications will be sent to UB students and received from students using the U.S. Mail.

Students who want to attend, must complete an application in order to be selected to attend.

Students will receive an application packet and be expected to complete and return the one-page application using the pre-addressed, stamped, mailing envelope included in the packet.

All returned applications will be considered in the order in which they are received.

Upward Bound Counselors will determine selected Summer College students ASAP following the deadline for return of completed applications and will notify students by text or phone as to whether or not they have been selected to attend.

Selected Summer College students and at least one parent or legal guardian are required to attend one Summer College orientation/registration meeting during the month of April.
2023 Summer College Information
Concurrent Enrollment for Summer College
Concurrent Class for Summer College 2023: Intro to Computer Technology 1113
The Oklahoma Regents for Higher Education establish concurrent enrollment criteria for high school students. The following criteria is for 2020-21 school-year freshmen, sophomores, or juniors AND who have:
ACT Criteria: a minimum composite score of 19 PreACT/ACT OR a 3.0 GPA on a 4.0 scale, AND a Reading sub-test score of at least 19.
SAT Criteria: a minimum composite score of 980 PSAT/SAT OR a 3.0 GPA on a 4.0 scale, AND a Reading sub-test score of at least 480.
The December ACT or the December SAT are the final testing dates to qualify for Summer College.
NOTE: Some school districts may require students to meet additional criteria for concurrent enrollment. Be sure to check with your high school counselor for any additional requirements.
Educational Field Trip Criteria for Attendance
The Educational Field Trip (EFT), which takes place during the final week of the Summer College program, is for graduated seniors (those entering college in the fall) and concurrent enrollment students who qualify to be placed in a college course. The following requirements must be fulfilled in order to attend.
Graduated Seniors Must:

Successfully complete the Summer Bridge experience at OSUIT.

Have no unexcused absences from required Saturday Field Trips during the current school year.*

Take the National ACT/SAT at least twice (on or before the current school year’s December testing date).

Complete and submit the FAFSA application and submit a copy of the Submission Confirmation page to their Upward Bound counselor.

Receive a letter of acceptance from the college or university of choice and submit a copy of the letter of acceptance to their Upward Bound counselor.
Concurrently Enrolled Students Must:

Successfully complete the Summer College experience at OSUIT.

Have no unexcused absences from required Saturday Field Trips during the current school year.*
*Students may be excused from attending a Saturday Field Trip only if they can show proof of involvement in one of the following:

National ACT/SAT college entrance exam testing

Required school-related academic or extra-curricular activity

College or University visit
