Upward Bound

2018 Summer College StudentsProgram Description
The QuESTT Upward Bound programs provide fundamental support to high school students in their preparation for college entrance. Both QuESTT Upward Bound programs provide opportunities for students to succeed in their precollege performance and ultimately in their higher education pursuits. Upward Bound serves income-eligible high school students from families in which neither parent holds a bachelor’s degree. The goal of Upward Bound is to increase the rate at which participants complete secondary education and enroll in and graduate from institutions of postsecondary education.
Services Provided by the Programs
  • Academic instruction in mathematics, laboratory science, composition, literature, and foreign language
  • Tutoring, counseling, cultural enrichment
  • Preparation for the ACT or SAT college entrance exam
  • Education and counseling services designed to improve the financial and economic literacy of students and parents
  • Information on the full range of Federal Student Financial Aid programs and benefits
  • Career exploration and aptitude assessment
  • Information about postsecondary education
  • Assistance in completing applications for financial aid and college admission
  • Assistance in locating and applying for scholarships
  • Six-week simulated college experiences each summer that allow students to earn college credit through concurrent enrollment and participation in the Upward Bound Bridge Program. Tuition and fees for this college credit are provided by OSUIT and Upward Bound.

Concurrent/Bridge Summer College Enrollment

OSUIT provides one 3-hour college credit course during each QuESTT Summer College session. Enrollment in this course is on a space-available basis. Only one Concurrent Enrollment (CE) course will be provided during each QuESTT Summer College session.

A student who takes advantage of Concurrent Enrollment during his/her rising junior Summer College session, his/her rising senior Summer College session, and his/her Bridge Summer College session can earn 9 college hours prior to official college enrollment in the fall. All college courses offered during the QuESTT Summer College sessions are transferrable to the student's college of choice. Tuition and fees for these courses are provided by Oklahoma State University Institute of Technology and QuESTT Upward Bound.
