The QuESTT Upward Bound Summer College experience consists of five weeks on the OSUIT campus and an Educational Field Trip that takes place during the sixth week.
The OSUIT dates are June 11 - July 20, with a holiday break July 2-6.
Students will arrive on the OSUIT campus for the first time on Monday morning, June 11, at 11:00 a.m., for Summer College check-in and campus orientation. Every week thereafter, students will arrive on Monday mornings at 11:00 a.m. Students will leave the campus to return to their homes for weekends at 1:00 p.m. on Friday afternoons.
Summer College is an academic experience in which students will have many new educational adventures and have fun learning in a simulated college environment.
The OSUIT Summer College curriculum is designed to serve three categories of students:
QuESTT Staff closely supervise and monitor students at all times during the Summer College experience. Staff members are on duty throughout the day and at all hours during the night to ensure the safety and well-being of every Summer College participant.
Absences are strongly discouraged because Upward Bound Summer College is an intense period of academic instruction, social/recreational leadership experiences, cultural activities, and fun! Students who stay on campus are expected to participate fully in all program activities.
Students who stay on campus will be housed in Lackey Hall. Girls will reside on the second floor while the boys will reside on the first floor.
Both girls and boys will be chaperoned at all times by adult dorm supervisors who reside on the dorm floors, working throughout the night, to provide maximum assistance and supervision.
During Summer College, QuESTT Upward Bound, in conjunction with OSUIT, will set up a computer lab in Lackey Hall to be used by Upward Bound students for class work only. These computers will have Internet access, Word, Excel, and PowerPoint capability. Should other software be necessary, QuESTT will load it on the lab computers.
Students may bring personal computer for study purposes. Internet service is available in dorm rooms. Students who want to access the Internet must bring their own CAT-5 cable. There is no wireless Internet access in Lackey Hall.
A celebration for students and parents/legal guardians will take place in Covelle Hall on the final evening of Summer College (Thursday, July 19, 6:30 - 8:00 p.m.). The purpose of this celebration is to recognize the hard work and achievement of students during the 2012 Summer College. Also, it is a special time to honor parents/legal guardians for the support and encouragement they provide as students strive for excellence in the Upward Bound Program. Parents/legal guardians are encouraged to attend.
